Black Diasporas Naarm Melbourne documents the experiences of individuals of African ancestry living in this city. Referencing African oral narrative cultural practices, we literally hear people voice their personal experiences.

For decades stories written about people of African heritage have perpetuated the tropes of nefarious ‘gang members’ and ‘extremely successful outliers’. Black Diasporas production by people of African descent resulted in more nuanced representations of the 50,000+ people of African heritage living in this city, stories encapsulating everything from the joy of child-birth, mundaneness of catching trams, effects of racial stereotyping, and loss of life.
