Aunty Joy Wandin Murphy AO
Aunty Joy Wandin Murphy AO is a Senior Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elder and a Traditional custodian of lands on which Melbourne is now located.
Aunty Joy has been recognised for the significant community leadership she has been involved with throughout her life, including Aboriginal Affairs for over 30 years and positions in executive policy and community development in all levels of government.
She has worked in the Department of Premier and Cabinet as Executive Officer of the Victorian Aboriginal Interim Committee, in the Ministry of Planning and Environment, Aboriginal Affairs and Projects Branch, the Victorian Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Unit and the Museum of Victoria. She has also worked at the local level as the Aboriginal Community Development Officer in the Shire of Yarra Ranges and as a Tribal mentor of the Victorian Equal Opportunity Board/Anti-Discrimination Tribunal for ten years.
Aunty Joy has a keen interest in the Arts and has produced and directed local, national and international performing arts projects, along with leadership positions in major arts and education institutions. She is a storyteller and a writer and is passionate about using story to bring people together and as a conduit for understanding Aboriginal culture.
She is actively involved in cultural leadership through the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, creating greater awareness of our shared responsibilities to recognise and care for Country.
